Frederik

Pohl is a singularly intelligent author, and I really like his style of tailoring multiple events together in such a nimble fashion. It is my opinion (feel free to disagree) that a linear narrative is the option to follow, atleast until one has written enough to gain experience enough to venture into the regions inhabited by the likes of Chuck Palahniuk. One book written in the form of letters, official documents and some conversations is 'Riot', by Shashi Tharoor. Tharoor, you migh remember, is an Indian diplomat who very nearly became the Secretary General of the UN recently. The only real complaint I have against him is that his principal character in Riot makes the statement that St. Stephen's is the best undergraduate college in India. Now this is ridiculous, because it has always, and will always been second best. I don't really need to mention the best college here. Anyway, Riot is quite well written and is highly recommended to anyone.
